Music Lessons
All of our music teachers have University training and/or professional performance experience. They are dedicated to learning about your personal musical goals and helping you to achieve them. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are very friendly, and dedicated to guiding you in the direction that helps you reach your full musical potential.
At Stevens School of Music & The Arts, we offer private music instruction on the following instruments:
|
Guitar Lessons
Students taking guitar lessons can study a variety of musical styles, such as rock, jazz, classical, country, and bluegrass. Early on, students can expect to work on some simple chords, and apply them to some simple songs. As soon as the student is ready, they will begin playing along to recordings by their favorite artists, which we find to be highly motivational. Guitar students will also learn to read standard musical notation from a method book, which will give them a solid foundation in theory to be applied to any musical style they wish. |
Piano Lessons
Students taking piano lessons typically begin their study learning to read standard musical notation through one of the many proven method books on the market today. Technical skills, as well as sight-reading, are focused on, as students enjoy playing a variety of songs presented by the instructor. Later, students may advance to playing music by greats such as Mozart, Bach, or popular tunes by many of today’s contemporary artists. Classical, jazz, ragtime, and pop are just some of the musical styles our teachers offer. |
Drum Lessons
Students taking drum lessons begin by learning to read and play simple rhythmic rudiments on a single drum, such as a drum pad or a snare. As students progress, they will quickly encompass the use of the entire drum kit, working on various grooves and fills. Later, students will have the opportunity to learn songs by their favorite artists. |
Voice Lessons
Our voice lessons focus on both classical and popular styles of singing. Students can expect to learn proper breathing techniques, reading skills, pitch control, etc. while learning music by some of their favorite artists. |
Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass Lessons
Students taking lessons on strings will typically begin by learning to read standard musical notation using one of the many proven method books on the market today. Students will learn the basics of holding the instrument, proper bowing, sight-reading, and other standard techniques. Students can learn a variety of musical styles, such as classical, Celtic, bluegrass, and pop. |
Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet Lessons
Students taking lessons on a woodwind instrument are most likely interested in participating in their school band. Private, one-on-one lessons, can help students prepare for a band audition, or give current band students some extra help to get ahead, or simply further their skills for more challenging band repertoire. Our teachers have had years of experience playing in various bands on the college and professional level. |
Ukulele Lessons
The ukulele is a great starter instrument for young children. Its small size makes it easy to handle, and its easily affordable price make it a hit with parents. Students can eventually transition over to guitar if they choose, as the tuning relationship is the same. |
